Chinese gay filmmaker and activist Fan Popo

The 30-year-old director and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) activist made history in China when he brought to court and got a favorable ruling on his suit against China’s top film regulator, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, or SAPPRFT last year. He sued the media regulator when he found his 2012 documentary, ‘Mama Rainbow’, was taken down from three major Chinese video streaming sites including including Youku, Tudou and 56.com two years ago.
