Kevin Mitnick, norteamericano contratado como experto en seguridad informática para trabajar con el Consejo Nacional Electoral en las elecciones presidenciales del domingo 17, ha descrito como «falso y difamatorio» un artículo publicado en LaRepública, titulado «El más famoso hacker, en Quito, por las elecciones», que informaba de su llegada a este país.
Mitnick escribe: «Los periodistas de La República, en Quito, han escrito falsos y difamatorios artículos sobre mi. Recuerdan los días de John Markoff». Markoff es un periodista de The New York Times que en 1994 escribió un libro sobre Mitnick. Una reseña sobre incidentes posteriores a la publicación de ese libro, recogidas por el sitio wikipedia, ha sido citada por LaRepública.
Kevin tuiteó esta medianoche que le parece «sorprendente» que periodistas usen el sitio Wikipedia como una fuente. «Increíble», comenta. Agrega que él clasifica Wikipedia en la misma categoría que en «National Enquire», conocido como uno de los diarios más sensacionalistas de los Estados Unidos.
